Recipe: Barbeque Baked Beans

I tried this recipe for the first time with my parents on the 4th of July. Usually I have to change a few things in a recipe to bring the flavor up a bit since we love big and bold spices, but I didn’t with this recipe. It was so flavorful and delivered that big punch we like.

NOTE: Since we had the beans with burgers and dogs, I did leave out the meat from the recipe.

Ingredients

• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 red bell pepper, chopped
• 1/2 onion, chopped
• 2 cloves garlic, chopped
• 2 (28-ounce) cans baked beans

• 1/4 cup molasses
• 1 cup Neelys BBQ sauce, recipe follows
• 3/4 cup chopped pork or beef brisket

Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.
In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat. Saute the red pepper, onion and garlic until softened, about 2 minutes. Add the baked beans and remaining ingredients and bring to a low simmer. Cover the beans and place in the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes.

Neelys BBQ Seasoning:
