Hybrid Chipboard Book Tutorial
Happy ‘only 9 shopping days left until Christmas’ Wednesday!
Do you have your shopping done or are you one who likes to wait until last minute? I finally finished our Christmas cards and they will be going out in the mail tomorrow. This has to be the latest I have ever mailed cards in my life. I have been stressing so bad over this but I had to get started on some of the crafts for Christmas gifts.
I decided this year to make some of our gifts this year, which is not a new thing for most but is definitely a new thing for me, and I have been having so much time doing it. I have found a new love in hybrid crafting and will try to feature more hybrid releases and tutorials on my blog in the future.
WARNING!!!! If you are a grandparent of my children STOP READING NOW!!!!! You have been warned!
One of the gifts I have been crafting this year is a hybrid chipboard calendar book for the boys’ grandparents and great grandma. We gave full size (8 ½” x 11”) calendars last year and I just felt they were a bit bulky and big. We have ours sitting on a shelf, not hanging and usual and I just wanted to do something different this year.
I decided to reduce the calendar template I was using to a 4 ¼ ” x 5 ½” size to make it more manageable for those who do not have a lot of space, like myself. LOL! The calendar is a basic digital scrapbooking style calendar printed with a luster finish on standard calendar paper from Kinko’s.
For this craft I purchased my papers, ribbon and embellishments from Michaels since I was in a rush. Of course you can always print your own paper and embellishments from digital scrapbook kits like mine.
I really enjoyed making this craft. It’s was so simple and (I think) they turned out pretty cute. There was not a lot of mess either which is perfect for a mother of twin three year old boys who love to nosy into everything. LOL!
You can see the calendar books I made in the photo below as well as a planner I made with the same technique. I have to give credit to Miss Mint at Peppermint Creative for the adorable calendar album which can be purchased here.

I hope you enjoy the tutorial below!
Hybrid Chipboard Book Tutorial

Creates 1 (One) Chipboard Book
Supplies
2 – 8 ½” x 11” Chipboard Sheets
2 – 12” x 12” Scrapbook Papers
Various Embellishments and Ribbons
Ruler
Scissors
Adhesive
Hole Punch
Binder Rings (optional)
Instructions
1) Cut each chipboard sheet in ½ to create four 4 ¼” x 5 ½” sheets and set aside.
2) Cut each scrapbook paper to create four 6” x 9” sheets. (each scrapbook paper should create two 6” x 9” sheets with a 3” x 12” strip left over)
3) Center the first chipboard sheet on top of one 6” x 9” scrapbook paper. Be sure to have you favorite print side facing down.

4) Wrap the edge of the excess scrapbook up and over each side of the chipboard and secure with adhesive. If paper corners stick out past the edge of the chipboard you can trim them with scissors.
Hint: If using a thicker scrapbook paper, moisten top edge of scrapbook paper with glue to make it more pliable. This edge will be covered in a later step.

5) Set wrapped chipboard aside to dry. If chipboard begins to curl, place a heavy flat object on top of chipboard until the adhesive dries.
6) Repeat step #3 through #5 for the remaining pieces of chipboard and scrapbook paper.
7) Hole punch one edge of the wrapped chipboard with either two or three holes. Be sure the holes are going to line up once book is assembled. I recommend doing this step now as it is hard to punch through two sheets of chipboard after they are glued together in a later step. Pair up the four completed wrapped chipboards. Glue each set of chipboards (chipboard side) together to form a fully papered front and a fully papered back cover.

You should now have two double chipboard sheets. The punch holes should line up, both sides of the chipboard should be covered and there should be no visible chipboard.
Fill your book with photos, notes, journals, calendars, and more. Hole punch each page to match the holes in the front and back covers of the book. Secure chipboard book and all the pages with ribbon or binder rings.
You are now ready to decorate your book or leave as is.
